Irons are generally used to cover shorter distances than fairway woods and hybrids, as well as for approaches close to green. The shot possibilities are endless, but the key is to choose the right set.

How do you choose your iron set?

First of all, there are 9 iron numbers from 1 to 9, ranging from the most closed loft and longest shaft (1-iron) to the most open and court (9-iron). The series is completed by wedges. These wedges s are specific in that they have letters: PW (for Pitching-Wedge), GP (Gap-Wedge) or UW (Utility-Wedge) or AW (Approach-Wedge), SW (Sand-Wedge), and LW (Lob-Wedge) and are differentiated by their opening.

As far as the clubhead is concerned, the thinner the sole (in this case, called the blade), the more delicate but precise the shot. Conversely, the wider the sole, the more forgiving the club(ideal for beginners).

When it comes to shafts, there are two materials: steel and graphite, both of which can be broken down into three main flex families, from the softest to the stiffest: Lady/Senior, Regular and Stiff.
