"I love all types of uniforms; they are a recurring and central theme in my work. There’s work, of course. And the tailored uniform, evoking school uniforms, military attire, and formal dress in general. Within youth subcultures, I've often talked about how clothing becomes a code of belonging; the idea of belonging to a group, being part of a team, and how to express that through dress. By reworking these uniforms, I soften or subvert their power, I bring vulnerability or youth to traditionally rigid outfits. I love when there are rules to break." Kris Van Assche
